Mr. Melvin “Smiley” J.T. Brock, age 35, of Braselton passed away Wednesday, May 9, 2012. “Smiley” loved to work and ride motorcycles and helping others. Mr. James Thomas Gaddis, age 64 of Nicholson passed away Tuesday, May 8, 2012. James loved to work on cars, listening to music and playing word games with the grandchildren. James’ favorite word was “EERPIDOODLE”. Mrs. Laura Allison Bates, age 87, of Doraville, Ga., passed away Tuesday, May 8, 2012. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Doraville for the majority of her life and was a member of the Eastern Star. Mrs. Bates was the last of sixteen children. She was survived by her son Dewayne Bates of Doraville, grandchildren, Lisa Anglin and husband David of Braselton, Ga., Michelle Bearden and husband Shannon of Ringgold, Ga., great grandchildren, Natalie Dorsch, Trevor Anglin, Kelly Anglin, Kathryn Anglin, niece Deborah Walker of Colorado. Rebecca “Becky” Sicard Shoemaker,age 44 of Bethlehem, Ga., died Monday, April 30, 2012, of complications of cervical cancer. Becky, a graduate of Salem High School in Slidell, La., was born in Okinawa, Japan, on Dec. 6, 1967. She is survived by: one son, William “Billy” Shoemaker III ; nine siblings: Kenneth (Monica) Sicard of Ferdinand, Ind.; Lola (Don) Rosenbaum of Warner Robins, Ga.; Michael (Gabriele) Sicard of Allegan, Mich.; Charlotte Sicard and Paul (Allyson) Sicard of Kennesaw, Ga.; Ron (Cathy) Sicard of Marietta, Ga.; Mary (Monty Adams) Sicard of Augusta, Ga.; Rose (Ronny) Gerrald of Richmond Hill, Ga.; and Maria Clay (Joey) of Bethlehem, Ga.; and stepchildren Kayla Shoemaker and Forrest Burns of Charlotte, N.C. Becky was preceded in death by her infant daughter, Elizabeth Sicard, and her mom and dad, Charlotte and Joel Sicard.
