Jose Arturo Islas, 84, of Pendergrass, GA, passed on to be with the Lord on June 22, 2014. Jose was born on March 2, 1930 in General Teran, Nuevo Leon, Mexico. He migrated to Miami, FL in 1955 and resided there until his retirement from the Coca-Cola Co. in 1980. He then moved to Wauchula, FL where he dedicated his life to ministering and helping others at the EastSide Baptist Spanish Missionary. During this time he obtained the degree of Associate of Divinity in Pastoral Ministry from Leavell College. He retired in 1997 and moved to Puerto Rico where he continued to minister for two years. In 2005, he retired to Pendergrass, GA. Proceeded in death by his wife Rosa Campos Islas and survived by his eight children, Maria Gonzalez, Jose Islas Jr., Guadalupe Dimas, Fernando Islas, Consuelo Shanks, Irene Maldonado, Cecelia Islas and Martha Rincon, twenty-four grandchildren and eighteen great grandchildren. Memorial Services were held at Lawson Funeral Home in Hoschton, GA on June 28, 2014. Pastor Scott Lance officiated. Interment was held at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Lake Worth, FL. He lived righteously through Christ and modeled his life by the verse “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me” Phil. 4:13.
