Alton “Donny” E. Gordy, Jr., age 65, of Braselton passed away early morning on Friday, September 27, 2013. Donny had several health issues, heart problems and had been on hemodialysis for the past six months. He had been doing very well but he had not been feeling well this week. He was born and raised in Griffin, Georgia. He was a career land surveyor and draftsman. He worked for Land Developing Company in Lilburn as a project manager for several years. Donny loved to deer hunt with his good friend, Tim Poole and would hunt for days at a time. His hobbies were collecting knives, coins and other items. He was a member of the West Jackson Lion’s Club and Northeast Church. Donny loved the Lord. He was a Sunday School teacher for many years. Donny loved people. He would have the Sunday School Class over for cookouts and a game of Dominoes. He also enjoyed having Tuesday Night Bible Study at his home with close friends. He was survived by his wife of 41 years B. Gordy; daughter Heather Kersting (Clay); granddaughter Hope Gordy and grandson Chase Kersting. He is preceded in death by his parents Alton E. Gordy, Sr. and Harriett Vaughn Gordy; son Alton E. “Trey” Gordy, III and brother Bill Gordy. Funeral Services will be held 4:00 pm Sunday, September 29, 2013 at Northeast Church, 2001 Cherry Drive, Braselton, GA, 30517. Rev. Russell Harbin and Rev. Jack Chalmers will be officiating. The family will receive friends 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm Saturday, September 28, 2013 at Lawson Funeral Home. Interment will be held at Zion Baptist Church Cemetery, Braselton, GA.
