Geran Floyd Dodson, born on October 22, 1941, in Laurens, Iowa, passed away on July 5, 2024, in Flowery Branch, Georgia. He was the beloved son of Floyd and Virginia Dodson, and Elva and Don Wiersma.
A loving husband, brother, father, and grandfather, Geran is survived by his devoted wife Debbie Jo Dodson; sons Christopher Dodson and wife Angie, Patrick Dodson and wife Jennifer; step children KJ Schroer, Bethany Schroer, Rebecca Ward and husband Chris, David Schroer and wife Haley, Alex Schroer and wife Amanda; sisters Janice Ungerman, Janet Wiersma, Dar Plaisance and husband Don, Glenda Gerard; and ten beautiful grandchildren.
Geran was a man of great intellect and passion for learning. He earned a Bachelor of Arts from Millsaps College in Jackson, Mississippi, a Master of Business Administration from Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia, a Master of Divinity from Lexington Theological Seminary in Lexington, Kentucky, and a Doctor of Pedagogy from National Louis University.
Throughout his professional life, Geran served as a pastor of several congregations, a college professor, a published author, and an investment banker. His dedication to his faith and community was evident through his volunteer work and leadership as an administrator of the Cornerstone Tabernacle Foodbank for over 20 years. Geran was also known for his role as a professor of business, ethics, government, and economics, where he challenged his students to think critically and expand their knowledge.
Geran had a rich and fulfilling life, filled with hobbies, interests, and a sense of humor that brought joy to those around him. He loved spending time with his grandchildren on the lake, hosting “Gramp Cooking Camp,” clothes shopping, and enjoying gourmet coffee treats with them. Geran was also a gifted singer and a member of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra Chorus. He was a collector of classic and antique cars, an avid boater, gardener, a magician, and even a drummer in a praise band. He especially loved traveling the world on historical adventures with his wife Debbie, creating memories that will be treasured forever.
His love for life and his infectious laughter will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Geran’s legacy of love, knowledge, and community service will live on in the hearts of his family, friends, and the countless lives he’s touched throughout his journey.
