Syble Mae Smith

Syble Mae Smith, age 92 of Statham passed away Wednesday, January 11, 2023. She was born in Statham to the late James Clarence and Eddie Mae Peppers. She graduated from Statham High School. Syble worked as a seamstress until she married her late husband James (Bud) Edward Smith. They moved to Smyrna where they raised their 5 children. She was a devoted member of the Smyrna Nazarene Church. She loved to garden beautiful flowers and delicious vegetables. She continued to sew for friends and made dresses for her granddaughters. In 1984 after the death of her husband, Syble became an employee to the famous southern restaurant Aunt Fanny’s Cabin. She handmade their biscuits, cornbread, cobblers and French salad dressing. In 2004 she sold her home to live out the rest of her life in Hoschton. Survivors include her sons James Roger Smith and wife Pam, Jerry Edward Smith and wife Teresa, Danny Gene Smith and wife Vickie and Larry Walter Smith; daughters Gloria Elaine Nichols and husband Scott. Syble was a devoted and loving grandmother to 10 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren and a host of other relatives. She was preceded in death by her sistersĀ  Mrs. Rachel Rooks and Mrs. Helen Deaton. Funeral Services will be held 11:00 am Saturday, January 14, 2023 at Lawson Funeral Home Chapel. Interment to follow at Mt. Harmony Church Cemetery, 581 Veterans Memorial Highway SE, Mableton, Ga., 30126. Rev. Danny Baker will be officiating.
