Wayman Houston Branton

Wayman Houston Branton, age 83, of Watkinsville passed away at Brookside Assisted Living Tuesday, October 1, 2019.  He was born August 7, 1936 in Rome, Georgia and resided most of his life in Oconee County.  He was an Airforce Veteran.  He served in the Korean War. He was head of Oconee County Courthouse Security for many years and loved working for the County.  He was preceded in death by his wife Margaret “Jean” Branton; mother, Bennie Lou Banton; brother, Lindsey Branton; and sister, Bessie Branton Ott. He is survived by his sons, Michael Branton and wife Daphne, Watkinsville; Jimmy Branton and wife Angie, Nicholson; Lee Branton and wife LaShea, Hoschton; grandchildren Stephanie and Jordan Sewell, Christopher Branton, Ashley Branton, Brett Branton, Brice Branton, SaraBeth Branton, and mother in law, Sara Jennings Downs. Funeral services will be held 12:00 PM Thursday, October 3, 2019 at Johnson United Methodist Church, 1890 Flat Rock Road, Watkinsville, GA 30677. Rev. Ken Jennings will be officiating.  Interment to follow with military honors at the church cemetery.  Family will receive friends one hour prior at the church.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Johnson United Methodist Church or Sons of the Confederacy https://scv.org/.

    I’m just now hearing about the passing of Wayman; I’m so sorry. He worked with my dad, Joe Polly, at the Oconee County Courthouse for twelve years. My dad considered Wayman his best friend and thought the world of him. I would go visit my dad at work and make a point to stop and speak your dad; he was an absolute joy. Again, I’m sorry for your loss and will keep you all in my prayers.
