Jefferson Woolf Mitchell III

Jefferson Woolf Mitchell III,  born August 15, 1943, in Kansas City, Missouri to Jefferson Woolf Mitchell Jr. and Ruth Isabelle (Rice) Mitchell. He passed away on August 10, 2023, in Gainesville, GA. Jeff graduated from Kansas University with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. Over his professional Career, he and his family made their home in Kentucky, Indiana, Wisconsin, Tennessee, Massachusetts, Pittsburgh, Michigan, eastern Pennsylvania, Florida, and finally Georgia. Jeff was a fixer and problem solver at heart. He loved repairing old cars, especially MGs, and had a passion for trains, both real and electric, that he shared with whichever child or grandchild was currently interested. Jeff is survived by his wife of 58 years, Virginia Marie (Cannon) Mitchell; brothers Carl Rice Mitchell of Kansas, Williams Stanton Mitchell of Florida. He has three children and seven grandchildren: Elizabeth Ruth (Mitchell) Moss and her husband Joseph and their children, William, Katherine, and Virginia , Jefferson Woolf Mitchell IV, his wife, Stephanie, and their children, Isabelle and Jefferson V. Scott Rice Mitchell and wife Hillary, their children Kane and Olivia. The family will have a small gathering at their home on August 20, 2023 for remembrance.   1. Jeff was my hero and the best person I ever new.
    I too, remember the model trains, the old cars he fixed up, and his humor and selflessness. I remember that he cared for our mother, and our bother and his brother in law without complaint. I remember his “dance parties” when a teenager and how “cool” both he and his eventual wife Virginia looked. I never heard him say a negative thing about anyone!
    I truly wish I could have been more like him.
