Thomas “Tom” Edward Gooby, age 78, of Braselton, passed away on Saturday, September 14, 2024. Born on January 27, 1946, in Malden, Massachusetts, he was the son of the late Edward and Claire Gooby. In addition to his parents, Tom was preceded in death by his brother, Alan Gooby.
Tom served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War for nine years in naval communications. It was during this time that he established a love for Scotland as well as lifelong friendships there. Until his last days, Tom worked in construction either as a project manager or flipping houses and properties. He was an avid Duke basketball fan, enjoyed fishing, and loved tinkering around with classic cars. Above all, Tom cherished his grandchildren, who were the apple of his eye.
He is survived by his wife of nearly 36 years, Peggy Gooby; a younger brother, Mark Gooby (Wilma); children Eric Gooby (Chantae), Kelly Ballard (Gary), and Addie Carithers (Zeke); grandchildren Owen Gooby, Harper Gooby, and Tate Carithers, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A Memorial Service will be held 7:00 pm Saturday, September 21, 2024 at Lawson Funeral Home Chapel. Officiating will be Pastor Jimmy Prickett. Interment cremation. The family will receive friends 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm Saturday, September 21, 2024 at the funeral home.
