Martha Faye Martin

Martha Faye Martin, born in Forsyth County and attended Chestatee School passed away Thursday, October 17, 2024. In 1955 the family moved to Hoschton, Ga., when Lake Lanier took their farm. She graduated from Jackson County High School and that is when the journey began.

Martha was the owner of Phil-Mart Transportation for 52 years. In a business that was run by men, she made it her own. Some of the men who gave her the hardest time became great friends. She was actively involved in the Rotary Club of Braselton, Jackson Co. Chamber of Commerce and Women in Business, Braselton’s Women’s Club, Hoschton Women’s Civic Club, Hoschton Heritage Arts Council, CASA, Peace Place, Tree House, Habitat for Humanity, Shriners, St. Jude, Smile Train and a host of many others. She loved her church family at Center Pointe Church.

Martha was a member of the GA Motor Trucking Association, and the Georgia Regional Transport Authority. She was also very influential in getting Northeast Georgia Medical Center to locate in Braselton, GA. She served on the board there as well. She was active in the local GOP.

Her motto was “GOD FAMILY COMMUNITY COUNTRY” and she lived by it every day.

Martha had a heart of gold and loved sharing it with everyone she met and she never met a stranger.

Martha loved life. She put family first, but she always said “work hard and give with your heart, whether it be material things, monetarily, but most importantly with your time”.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in her honor to Rotary Club of Braselton, Humane Society of Jackson County, CASA or any of the organizations she was a part of.

Martha was preceded in death by her beloved husband Max Martin; son Wayne Martin; parents Glana and H.W. Summerour; sisters Mary Mitchell and Wilma Woodall.

She is survived by her daughter Cheryl Martin; daughter-in-law Lisa Martin; grandson (and apple of her eye) Wyatt Martin; sister Wanda Strzemienski and husband Joe; sisters-in-law Gail Emmett and Cathy Martin; a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews.

A Funeral Service will be held 2:00 pm Saturday, October 26, 2024 at Lawson Funeral Home Chapel. Officiating will be Blaine Spence. Interment to follow at Alta Vista Cemetery in Gainesville, GA. The family will receive friends 3:00 pm to 8:00 pm Friday, October 25, 2024 at the funeral home.   1. My heart goes out to Martha’s family today as we grieve the loss of her presence in our lives. She was a beacon of light to everyone she met. I know that when she received her angel wings, God opened his arms to her and said “well done my good and faithful servant”.

  2. My heart and love goes out to Martha’s family. Martha and I were friends for 37 years. And the difference she made in my life will never be forgotten. I thank God daily for the people he has brought into my life, and Martha is one of the ones at the top of that list. My prayers, and love goes out to the family. She was a very precious friend. Although she may be gone, she will forever be remembered.

I have always thanked God for all the wonderful people he has placed in my life, the ones that have made a difference in your life and have helped you to become a better person. Martha would be at the top of my list. She may be gone but will never be forgotten.

  4. Martha was a best friend . Her wisdom and kindness was abundant. Even when she was not feeling well ,
    She would say, “ Is there anything I can do for you ?” This was her heart . ❤️ Always serving others and making the community a better place to live . She truly had an impact on the woman I have become. She introduced me to Rotary and many charities . She loved God, her family and her friends . God bless Ms. Martha . I miss her laughter already. God bless her.

  5. There will never be another like Martha. It was such a blessing to have known her. She will be missed. Sending lots of prayers and love to the family during this time.

  6. What a Lady! For her family, my thoughts and prayers are with you. The heartbreak is unimagineable. She lived life with so much “Gusto” and “Love”, when you were in her presence you felt loved and cared for. She was always a giver. She will only see the result of the seeds she sowed in eternity. Her fingerprints are all over so many lives and the entire community. May God give the family strength and peace.
