Charles Collier (Charlie) Space, Jr., age 87 of Hoschton, GA, cherished husband of 65 wonderful years to Linda L. Space, passed away on Friday September 29, 2023. He was predeceased by his parents Charles C. Space, Sr. and Jill H. Space, and his brother. He was a loving and devoted father to Suzanne S. Woodring of Columbia, TN, and Steven D. Space (Barbara) of Suwanee, GA, and beloved “Papa” to his grandchildren Riley H. Space (Christi) of Atlanta, GA, and Courtney S. McGuire (Thomas) of Columbia, SC. He also leaves behind two sisters, Nancy S. Mackey and Jill S. Peeples. Charlie was a graduate of Landon High School in Jacksonville, FL and a 1957 graduate of the Georgia Institute of Technology with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He served as a consulting engineer for over 40 years. His career was one that touched on many of the fascinating events of the last half of the twentieth century. Few engineers have been blessed with such a diverse and exciting career that included major projects and fascinating individuals that crossed his path. Major projects included participation in the design of the launch tower for the Saturn Moon shots, design, and construction of the underground facilities for the development of Walt Disney World and strengthening of the defenses for the Panama Canal following the Cuban Missle Crisis. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, October 7, 2023, at 2 PM at Hamilton Mill Christian Church, 3809 Sardis Church Road, Buford, GA 30519.
