Charlotte Petrohoy Rooney

 

Charlotte Petrohoy Rooney, RN, age 84,  joined her beloved husband James in eternal rest on Sunday, March 20, 2022, at her home in Georgia. Born in Bethlehem, PA to Michael and Irene Zambo Petrohoy, Charlotte graduated from Central Catholic High School, Allentown, PA and St. Luke’s School of Nursing in Bethlehem, PA.

Jim and Charlotte married in 1959 and raised their family in Shelton, CT. Charlotte spent much of her nursing career working in the Childbirth Center at Griffin Hospital and worked tirelessly with her husband at their business, General Rental Center in Hamden She enjoyed volunteer work in a variety of settings, both in CT and after retirement to Hudson, FL, which became home base for many adventures. She and Jim visited every state in the US at least once and enjoyed many excursions by land and sea to the Caribbean, Europe, and other ports of call. Their favorite journeys involved the family that survives them, daughters Patti (Todd) Winfield of Canon, GA, Joan Rooney of Shelton, CT, Donna (Patrick) O’Hara of Monroe, CT and Lavonia, GA, and Kate (Richard) Ugarte of Baltimore, MD. She cherished her 6 grandchildren and delighted in her 6, soon 8, great-grandsons. Charlotte is also survived by sisters-in-law, Patricia Petrohoy, Sr. Margaret Rooney and Sr. Patricia Rooney, as well as several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother Michael Petrohoy.

A Mass of Resurrection will be held at Prince of Peace Church in Flowery Branch, GA on Friday, March 25, 2022  at 11:00 AM. Burial will take place at the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, FL.

A celebration of life for Jim and Charlotte will take place Saturday, April 23, 2022 in Connecticut.

Those wishing to make a memorial gift in Charlotte’s honor are asked to consider the ALS Society, Shriner’s Children Hospital or The Rooney Family Scholarship at Lauralton Hall.

  1. May she rest in peace 🙏 we remember meeting when you lived in Huntington & could only find the house in the dark. I was in the 2nd CO GFG with your dad. Al & Mary Lou Edwards.
