Cynthia Meggison Crawford

Cynthia Megginson Crawford, age 70, of Winder, passed away Friday, December 9, 2011. She was born Cynthia Ann Megginson in Sunny South, Alabama, the daughter of Edward F. Megginson and Elizabeth Reed Megginson. She was raised there until she was 12, when her parents moved to Miami, Florida. There she met Lowell Crawford in 7th grade, and they sang together in school chorus into high school. They began going together in 11th grade, and were married at age 18 after each attended college for one year. Their daughter Sondra was born a year later, and their son Matt three years after that. The family lived in New Orleans for several years, then Apalachicola, Florida for a couple of years , then moved to the Atlanta area. Cynthia worked at International Harvester in East Point for 14 years as a secretary and stenographer. The family was active in various Baptist churches where her husband was part-time music director in the south Atlanta area for several decades. Cynthia was a gifted soprano soloist, and the family often sang together. They lived in Riverdale for 18 years, then she and her husband built a log home in Fayetteville and enjoyed life there for 24 years before moving recently to Winder, Ga. She was a great animal lover, especially cats, and supportd a number of animal welfare groups. Cynthia is survived by her husband, Lowell Crawford, her daughter Sondra C. Anderson of Winder , her son Matthew L. Crawford of Alover, Spain, her sister Juanita A. Jonhson of Fayetteville, Ga., and four grandchildren. She and her husband were married 51 years.
