Daisy Selma Verner MacLean of Braselton, Georgia passed away on Friday, March 4, 2016. She donated her body to Emory for teaching and research. Daisy was born January 12, 1920 in Oconee County, South Carolina. She graduated from Oconee County High School in Watkinsville, Georgia and attended Habersham College in Clarksville and Georgia State College for Women in Milledgeville. During World War II she worked for the Foreign Economic Administration in Washington, D. C. She married Don in 1945 and they moved to Watkinsville, Georgia then to Braselton in 1955. She worked for Braselton Banking Company and loved being a wife, mother, aunt, friend and volunteer in the community. She was preceded in death by her husband John Donald MacLean, her parents Mary Lydia (May) McDonald Verner and Henry Lee Verner. Four brothers Edwin Verner (Augusta), Lemuel Verner, Alvin Verner (Louise), Henry Verner (Sara), and one sister Lillian McKenzie (Mack). She is survived by her daughters Patty Patten and Susan Korb and grandchildren Robert Patten (Kristin), Rebecca Rutan (Ian), Julie Martin (Tony), James Korb (Jenny), Elisabeth Korb, great-granddaughter Taylor Martin, sister-in-law Editha MacLean and many beloved nieces, nephews and cousins. Daisy was a member of Hoschton United Methodist Church, Braselton Woman’s Club and Friends of the Braselton-West Jackson Library. Family and friends have so many wonderful memories of their time spent with Daisy. Whether she knew you a few minutes or a lifetime, she was interested in what was happening in your life. Her passions were people, working in her garden, sharing plants, writing in her daily journal, reading and attending church. Daisy greatly appreciated the Friends of the Library designating “Miss Daisy’s Garden” in the children’s corner of the library with a mural. She said, “We never know how much we are going to inspire a child to read by having access to interesting material.” She loved America, always voted and appreciated God’s blessings. She loved hymns and was known for saying “Keep a song in your heart”.
