Deborah (Mitchell) Butcher, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother (GiGi), sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on October 6, 2024, at the age of 65. Her passing leaves an immense void in the lives of those who were fortunate enough to know and love her. Deborah was known for her remarkable kindness, her selfless heart, and her unwavering love for her family and friends. She was a light in the lives of so many, and her legacy of compassion will continue to inspire everyone she touched.
Born on August 6, 1959, in Montgomery, Alabama, Deborah was the cherished daughter of Jim Mitchell (deceased) and Joyce (Turnipseed) Mitchell of Mathews. She attended Auburn University and later enjoyed a fulfilling career in Marketing with Kimberly-Clark, from which she retired. Yet, no professional accomplishment could compare to the pride she took in her family. She was a devoted wife, mother, and caregiver, and her love for her family was boundless. Throughout her husband Eric’s 20-year battle with cancer, Deborah remained a pillar of strength and love, always by his side. Her dedication to caring for those around her was unmatched, and her family felt the constant warmth of her support and encouragement every day.
In her later years, Deborah found tremendous joy in her role as GiGi to her grandsons, Daniel and Lucas. She adored her time with them, creating special memories that will be treasured forever. She also loved tending to her beautiful garden, a reflection of the care and nurturing spirit that she extended to everyone in her life. She was an avid animal lover and her home was always filled with beloved pets. Whether with her family or friends, Deborah’s presence was a source of comfort and joy, and her capacity for love knew no bounds.
Deborah leaves behind her son Cody Butcher, her daughter Kayla (Butcher) Lunn and husband Justin, her grandsons Daniel and Lucas Lunn, her beloved mother Joyce (Turnipseed) Mitchell, her brother Phil Mitchell and wife Lauri, her sister Carol (Mitchell) Moody and husband Cris, her father-in-law Allen Butcher, brother-in-law Brian Butcher and wife Kathleen, brother-in-law Russell Butcher, sister-in-law Allison Dunsmuir and husband Scott, step-sister-in-law Joni Cannon and husband Roger, and step-brother-in-law Bud Gilbert. She is also survived by her numerous loving nieces and nephews; Tyler Mitchell, Katherine Ann (Mitchell) Tuder and husband Nick, Mitch and Chad Moody, Andrew, Hannah (Butcher) Rake and husband Jeremy, Jesse Butcher and Justin Butcher and wife Kelly, Laurel and Mason Dunsmuir, and Leah (Cannon) Edwards. Preceding her in death are her devoted husband, Eric Butcher, her father, Jim Mitchell, her mother-in-law, Marion (Smith) Butcher, and niece Sarah Cannon.
Deborah’s memory will be honored at a Memorial Service on Sunday, October 13, at 2 PM at Lawson Funeral Home in Hoschton, Georgia with a celebration of life at her home to follow. Deborah had a deep appreciation for flowers, and any donations made in her memory would be greatly cherished. Your generous donations will not only beautify the service but also celebrate her enduring spirit and love for nature.
We will also have a service for her at Hopewell Church in Fitzpatrick, Alabama to have her ashes interned with her husband, Eric on October 19, at 10AM.
Her family, friends, and all whose lives she touched will forever remember her as a beacon of love, kindness, and grace.
