Delton Verner

Delton Verner, age 80 of Watkinsville passed away Tuesday, October 15, 2024.  Delton loved many things including: reading, bird watching, the Atlanta Braves and the Georgia Bulldogs which he was a lifetime fan of, his two cats, Merlin and Misty, and most importantly his family and friends. He was a passionate follower and witness of Jesus, and an active member at the First Baptist Church of Jonesboro. Delton was a devoted friend to many, a selfless husband, and an amazing father to his children. He will be missed dearly by all who were blessed to know him. He is survived by his daughter Karen Verner of Athens; son Stephen Verner and wife Brandy of Watkinsville; brother Hoyt Verner of McCaysville; sister Mildred Dickey and husband Max of Dallas, TX; Brother-in-law Tim Beck and wife Lisa of Marietta; grandson Bryson Verner and wife Jenna of Okatie, SC; granddaughter Alayna Mickles and husband Isaiah of Monroe; and a host of other relatives and friends. Delton was preceded in death by his first wife Cheryl Verner; second wife Carol Verner; parents Leonard and Ethel Verner; brothers Elvin Denton, Marvin Verner, Morris Verner, Lloyd Verner, Jimmy Verner; sister Edith Ballew; son-in-law Jeffery Campbell; and grandson Jonathan Verner. A Funeral Service will be held 11:00 AM, Friday, October 25, 2024, at the First Baptist Church of Winder. Rev. Earl Pirkle and Pastor Allen Davis will be officiating. Interment will follow at Sherwood Memorial Gardens in Jonesboro. The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm, October 24, 2024, at Lawson Funeral Home.
