Lewis Russell Long, age 89, of Lincolnton, Georgia passed from this life on Jan 12, 2025 into the arms of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ and reunited with his loving wife of 63 years. Lewis, fondly known as Russ, was born to Murrain and Orma Long on Jan 11, 1936 in Parkersburg, WV.
He was a Minister in good standing with the United Pentecostal Church International for 58 years. In this capacity, he served as Pastor of the church in Ravenswood, WV. He also founded Christian Life Center in Petersburg, VA and served as Pastor there for twenty eight years. Called out of retirement, he served as Pastor of Grace Tabernacle in Danville, VA. Along with his son, Jeff, he co-founded Christian Life Center of Braselton, GA where he was known affectionately as “Bishop Long”. Also, he was a highly skilled carpenter and craftsman building new homes all across Virginia.
He enjoyed the outdoors such as golfing, tennis, bird watching, and also keeping his yard nice. He truly loved his pets, Ben G and his beloved McDuff and Valentine.
He is survived by his sister, Sue Phillips and five children, Terri Salser (Tom), Steve Long (Renee), Randy Long (Diane), Pete Long (Denise), and Jeff Long (Patty). He was a loving grandfather to 13 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.
To honor his life, a service will be held at Christian Life Center of Braselton, GA, on Jan 18, 2025 at 11:00 am. Service to be officiated by Rev. Berry Sossoman and Rev. Larry Wallbrown. A visitation will be held 6:00pm to 8:00 pm, January 17, 2025 at Christian Life Center of Braselton. Flowers may be sent to Lawson Funeral Home located at 4532 Hwy 53, Hoschton, GA 30548.
