Reed John Sheridan, aged 66, died on Wednesday 30 April 2025 at home with his wife, Judy Sheridan (Nunnally), and daughters, Sara and Lara, at his side.
Reed was born in Southampton, New York, on 26 February 1959 to Donald and Jean Sheridan. After graduating from the University of Georgia in 1982 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Forest Resource Management, he attended Officer Training School at Lackland Air Force Base in Texas. He was commissioned in May 1984, and then in November 1985, was assigned to McChord Air Force Base in Washington. During his six years there, he served as part of the 62nd Military Airlift Wing and the 62nd Airlift Control Squadron (ALCS), among other stations. From August 1990 to February 1991, Reed served in support of Operation Desert Shield/Storm. He left active duty in November 1992 and joined the 94th Airlift Control Flight at Dobbins Air Reserve Base in April 1993, where he first served as an Operations Officer before being selected as 94th ACLF Commander in April 1997. He retired as a Lieutenant Colonel in July 2007.
Reed utilized the logistical skills and leadership capabilities he gained during his service with the Air Force by accepting the role of an Emergency Management Specialist at the Center for Disease Control (CDC) in Atlanta. During his tenure there, he was able to continue his world travels to New Guinea, South Sudan, and his favorite, Thailand. He retired from the CDC in July 2021.
In addition to his passion for serving his country, Reed had a special place in his heart for the Atlanta Braves, an eclectic mix of music genres, and the upper end of the Scoville scale. He had a love of nature, taking great pride in his immaculate lawn and variety of gardens, and brought this love indoors through woodworking and carpentry.
Gone in body but not in spirit, Reed leaves on this earth his wife of 36 years, Judy Sheridan; his daughters Sara Sheridan (husband Nat Walker) and Lara Sheridan; his mother, Jean Sheridan; and sisters, Lynne Sheridan and Ann Butler (husband Shawn Butler). A Memorial service is planned for 17 May 2025 at Lawson Funeral Home in Hoschton, Georgia at 11 AM. A reception at Cork It Braselton will follow. Per Reed’s wishes, please make donations to Wounded Warriors or Tunnel to Towers in lieu of flowers. Arrangements by Lawson Funeral Home, 4532 Hwy 53 Hoschton, Ga., 30548. God bless!
