Richard "Dick" Hamman

 

 

Richard “Dick” Hamman of Peachtree City, Ga., passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, Sept. 20, 2014. Born in Fairmont, W.Va., on Sept. 25, 1928, Dick was the son of the late Roy Silas Hamman and Edna Jane Hamman. He was 85. Dick served in the U.S. Army following high school, graduated from West Virginia Institute of Technology, and taught Industrial Arts in Bladensburg, Md. In 1954, he married and four years later moved to Keyser, W.Va., where he started his own NAPA Automotive Parts business under the corporate name of Hamman Auto Parts. He operated the business, which grew to several stores in West Virginia and Maryland, for 25 years. At the age of 55, Dick retired to Peachtree City. He partnered with his son in establishing his own NAPA auto parts stores in South Carolina and assisted with the financial side of the business. Dick was an avid golfer, enjoyed woodworking, and he loved to spend time with his family and travel. He was a member of Peachtree City United Methodist Church.
Dick is survived by his wife of 60 years, Ernestine “Ernie” Hamman; a son, Gary Hamman, and wife Margie of Aiken, S.C.; a daughter, Allyson Sicard, and husband Paul of Kennesaw, Ga.; four granddaughters, Abbie and Liza Hamman and Kari and Mackenzie Sicard; his siblings, Anita Kiesel and husband Hank of Carmel, Ind., and Janet Amiott of Virginia Beach, Va.; his sister-in-law Doris Hamman of Buckhannon, W. VA; and a number of nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Dick is preceded in death by his brother, James Hamman. The Memorial Service will be held at Peachtree City United Methodist Church in Peachtree City on Saturday, Sept. 27, at 2 p.m. The family will receive friends beginning at 1 p.m. at the church. They request that in lieu of flowers, a donation be made in the memory of Dick Hamman, to the Memorial Fund of Peachtree City United Methodist Church, 225 Robinson Road, Peachtree City, GA 30269.
