Avonda Joy King

Mrs. Avonda Joy King, passed to be with the Lord on June 9,2024 at the City of Hope Cancer Center in Newnan, GA.

Avonda was born in Athens, TN September 12,1969 to Brenda Crabtree Shugart and the late Willard Shugart, the family soon moved to Tucker, GA where Avonda would grow up in the small town, graduating from Tucker High School.

Avonda loved to draw and studied Graphic Design at the Dekalb Technical College after High School, enjoyed the outdoors, spending time with her family more than anything, playing fast pitch softball growing up through the teenage years, then playing adult softball with her Mom and husband for several years, later taking up tennis. She enjoyed riding dirt bikes, going on hiking trails, and taking family vacations, she loved life with her family. Avonda spent her work career in the dental industry where her primary focus was insurance verification in more recent years. Avonda grew her faith while attending a few different churches through the years, while living in Loganville, GA the family attended Grace Fellowship in Snellville, GA while her kids were growing up, later moving to Hoschton, GA where her family would attend Christ Place Church in Oakwood, GA for the last 6 years. Avonda loved to hear  the word of God, her faith and belief of loving everyone was strong, and she knew where she was going, devoted to Gods word in order to gain everlasting life, she new she was going to be with Jesus.

Avonda is survived by her husband Keith of 27 years, mother Brenda Crabtree Shugart, daughters Emily and Madeline, brother Patrick Shugart(wife Summer), bother in laws Mike King(wife Kathy), Mark King, Kevin King(wife Kim), along with many nieces and nephews, and cousins of both GA and TN, preceded in death by her father Willard Shugart.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 7:00 pm Wednesday, June 12, 2024 at Lawson Funeral Home Chapel. Officiating will be Caleb Leamon. Interment cremation. The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm Wednesday, June 12, 2024 at the funeral home. In honor of Avonda the family asks you wear something purple.   2. Oh to hear the works “Well done my good and faithful servant”. I am so sorry for your loss but so thankful that Avonda was a believer and is now walking with her savior. I had the pleasure of working with Avonda. She was always a bright spot in my day when I had communication with her. I’m thankful for the moments I got to spend in her light.

  3. I was so saddened to hear about Avonda’s passing but will rejoice knowing she is in Heaven and is healthy for eternity. Avonda was such a beautiful person inside and out, may you Rest In Peace in God’s loving arms and may God comfort your family in this time of grief.

  8. Keith, my heart aches for you, my brother, my cousin, my friend. There are no words. I am grateful that she knew Jesus. And I know because of him and your church and your family you and the kids will get through this. I don’t know how but God knows. I love you my cousin I miss you. I’m praying for you and the family.
    I just found out about this today and I would’ve been there last night, but I know that the right people were there and again not much that a smile and a hug would’ve done anyway… Of course the old days I could’ve beat up on you but you’re much bigger than I am🤣
