Betty Fountain Hayes Day

Betty Fountain Hayes Day, age 83 of Commerce, Winder and Monroe, Georgia, went peacefully into the arms of her precious Savior, Friday morning, March 29, 2024, following an exhausting battle with Alzheimer’s. She was welcomed into Glory by her Daddy and Mama, Benjamin ‘Frank’ and ‘Fannie’ Lee Westbrooks Fountain; her brothers, Owen (Maude), John, Bud, Tommy (Patti), Willard, and the twins; her sister, Tommie Lou Waldroup Knight (Bill); her Granny, Ella Mae Murray Westbrooks; and her first husband, Lee Van Hayes. She leaves behind her three daughters, Sandy H. Walters (Dennis), Jill H. Baynes (Barry), and Kristie H. Matousek (Libor); one brother, Jerry Fountain; four sisters, JoAnn May (Charles), Beverly Chambers (Harold), Judy Hunter, and Jackie Helle (Kenny); five grandchildren, Derrek Walters, Daniel Walters (Kayla), Julia Walters Gurley (Luke), Jonathan, and Marek Matousek; six precious great grandchildren, Carrigan, Josiah, Alistair, and Lorelei Gurley, Dawson and Addie Jane Walters; and a multitude of nephews and nieces she dearly loved. We praise God for allowing us to have her as a mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and friend. She was beautiful, inside and out, kind and hard working, a talented seamstress, an amazing cook, and could hit a home run playing softball batting left or right handed. She was a home healthcare nurse for over twenty years and loved her clients like family. An amazing friend, she showed kindness to everyone she met. But most of all she was passionate about sharing her Savior with others. We will miss her quirky sense of humor, her squeal that scared us all when something startled her, her big beautiful brown eyes, and her smile that could light up a room. Yet, we know we will be together again! Her Celebration of Life will be Friday, April 12, 2024 at Lawson Funeral Home Chapel. The family will receive friends from 12:00 pm to service time at 2:00 pm. Officiating will be her grandson, Rev. Daniel L. Walters. Interment will follow at Barrow Memorial Gardens, Winder, Georgia. In lieu of flowers it was Mama’s wish that love offerings be made to the Music Ministry of her church, Union Baptist Church, Winder, Georgia. Arrangements by Lawson Funeral Home, 4532 Hwy 53, Hoschton, Georgia, 30548. Lawsonfuneralhome.org. 706-654-0966.

  1. Love & prayers to the families of Sandy/Dennis, Kristie/Libor, Jill/Barry. I sure wish Glenn & I were in a position we could travel to pay our respect on the 12th; but, please know you’re all in our hearts, thoughts, and prayers. Aunt Betty was such a sweet lady and I have many great memories of her from when I was a child. Love to everyone, Luanne
