MJ Dobson
, age 83, of Purvis, Mississippi, passed away on Thursday, May 23, 2024, peacefully surrounded by his family in Gainesville, Georgia.

MJ was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Dobson, son, Harry Dobson, brother HA Dobson, sister Ouida Christensen, sister Janice Nelson Carr, sister Laura Frances Morris, and sister Ray Meinhardt.

He is survived by his daughters Carmen (Michael) Burgamy and Shannon (Greg) Goswick, daughter in law, Carrie Dobson, and his grandchildren Michael and Holly Burgamy, Tyler Burgamy, Matthew Dobson, Brandon Dobson, Taylor (Adam) Jarrard, Bailey and Allie Goswick, and great grandchildren, Addalyn, Blakely, Michael, Noah, and Graham.

MJ was a veteran of the United States Navy and served his country for six years.

He loved to fish, listen to gospel music, color and draw, eat watermelon, clown around, and play dominos, but most of all, he loved his family. Anyone who knew him knew how kind and loving he was. He was known as “The Candy Man” at church because everyone always knew they could find peppermints or sweets in his pocket.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 pm Sunday, May 26, 2024 at Zion Hill Baptist Church in Flowery Branch, GA. Rev. Scott Wilson will be officiating. The family will receive friends beginning at 12:00 pm on Sunday, May 26, 2024 at the church.  Interment will be held in Citronelle, Alabama.   6. Carmen And Mike, my prayers are with you today. I was so blessed to meet your Dad . I remember before I met him, Mike called him dad too . He made me so happy, smiling, and laughing. But he always remembered to look through the woods to check and see if my light was on. He warmed my heart and made me realize that there is good in the world. From his hugs to his kisses he was the best. I’m here for you guys and I will always be here. Thanks for giving me the chance to meet such a wonderful person, it made me realize that there’s still so much good in this world. Love you guys.
